THE JOURNEY OF AN ANONYMOUS PASTOR

I am a pastor and I was enslaved to pornography secretly for over 10 years. My story is not unique because I was not molested, abused, abandoned, neglected, raised by crazies or pharisaical parents. My story is simple in that I was exposed to pornography, I liked it, and I wanted to look at it more. Let me tell you more about myself.

I am from a great Christian home where my father was a wonderful pastor who not only lead his church well but also his family. My mother has always shown great respect and love to my father and raised me and my sibling well. I was taught the bible from my earliest memories and spent much time in pray together. I was saved by Christ at the age of six and recommitted my life to him at 15. I have only missed 12 or less Sundays of church my whole life. I have been serving in ministry since I was 16. At the age of 18 I was a leader in my youth group and college groups. Soon I was preaching on a regular basis and a youth pastor. This was all going on while I was enslaved to pornography.

This caused much pain and grief because here I was, a Christian leader and I was struggling with a sin that would not go away. I was in fear of going to tell anyone and get help because I felt like a pervert and that good Christian people do not struggle with this and the few people that I did tell did not help me in anyway. Satan had me right where he wanted me, I was in a secret trap.

I finally went to see David Jones at Restoration Path for a four day intensive and I found forgiveness from Jesus, learned about my identity in Christ, began to remember the love that God has for me, and begin to forgive myself. David gave me tools from God’s word to help me fight against the darts of Satan and how to use the armor of God. Is the battle over? NO! However, Jesus has won the war! But, there is still sin in my heart and John Owen said, “be killing sin or sin be killing you.” So, I will continue to battle sin until I go home to heaven.

This is the start of a new blog. I will journal about my week as a pastor who struggles and wars with pornography. You will see my ups and down as I walk with Christ. It is a real fight that MANY pastors are fighting. Begin praying for your pastor (if you have one) and me in this fight.

I have been surfing on-line greater than three hours today, but I by no means found any interesting article like yours. It’s beautiful price enough for me. Personally, if all web owners and bloggers made good content as you probably did, the internet will likely be much more helpful than ever before.

Thank you for you courage pastor, keep it up. fight the good fight. I like to say that I will never be free from my sexual sin, but I have freedom from it. That is, I do not and will not give in to it again, B U T I must remember that because of my past I am sensitive to certain visual stimulus and I have to have a game plan for avoiding any “triggers”. I like the way I heard a former alcoholic state it. He said he was a recovering alcoholic. He doesn’t drink anymore but he has to make a deliberate choice not to. I hope I made sense.
