Disappointment

I look back at how quickly I forgot about the disappointment I experienced with a human that I didn’t even know and how hard it is for me to get past my perceived disappointments with God whom I do know.

There is a Dead Fish on my Wall

Marriages that carry the secrets of sexual sin only become sicker and eventually terminal. We fear sharing these secret struggles because others will smell the stink and mess of my sin and we all know nobody likes messy and smelly situations in the church. Unlike my dead fish, marriages can truly be made anew and alive again but only if we take the right steps.

My Journey to Freedom-Part Two

Everyone’s relationship with their sexual sin is different. Learning how to cope with denying myself was akin to a dope fiend going through withdrawal. I literally had to detoxify myself of all the mess in my life. Coming to the realization that my addiction wasn’t about what it was about made everything much clearer, also. Setting boundaries and limiting opportunities for slip-ups became a priority as I sought to walk as a true kingdom man.

February Newsletter – Restored Hope: A Wife’s Journey

Wives of sexual addicts are the most misunderstood group in our churches today. They are often overlooked, misunderstood, and mislabeled. They are overlooked when the husband’s addiction is revealed and the primary focus becomes getting him on the right path. Here is a comment from one of our recent participants. “The wives video intensive has […]

Bad Call

Jesus had recently raised Lazarus from the dead and the word of this miracle had preceded his entry into Jerusalem. In today’s terminology we might say that his approval ratings were off the chart. Thousands of on lookers gave him a standing ovation and sang his praises. Their expectation was for Jesus to be the one to deliver them from the cruel oppression of the Roman government. At last God had heard their cries and would soon provide justice and fairness for His chosen people. This applause and praise lasted about as long as the approval of the referees.

Space Shuttle Endeavour

Faith or Fantasy

The word endeavor in part means to “to try to reach or achieve something, to exert”. That would make the name Endeavour a fitting title for a space craft. This retired spacecraft no longer has to strive to reach or achieve something. As mentioned in the article, this is the last flight for the space shuttle. This retired spacecraft, however, is not flying; it is riding or being carried to its new home in California. It is leaving its old and familiar home in Florida to go to a place that it has never visited. Surely as it goes down the city streets there will be many on lookers that greet this new arrival with cheers and applause for a job well done. One day we will all leave this home called earth and go to a new home that we have never visited before. Where will your new home be?

Real People of Influence

It would be fair to say that none of us will ever make Forbes list for most powerful woman or man. As Christians, our power and influence can be even greater and farther reaching than any of the women listed in the article. Let’s take a look at the points listed in our definition and how they apply to our Christian influence.

You Are Not Alone

Andy and Tammy Reid faced the greatest terror that a parent could ever experience. All parents, from the moment the child is conceived, want to protect their children from all harm, injury, and most importantly death. We want to protect them from external and internal forces that could harm them. The Reid family battled with both of these forces regarding their son’s drug addiction. The external temptation of drug usage as a means of coping with and escaping the difficulties of life can be tremendous. The internal lies we tell ourselves keep us walled off from the people close to us and lead us into isolation, despair and self destruction. When the external temptations line up with our internal lies then the ending result can be deadly. Andy and Tammy Reid loved their son and battled with all their strength to save him.

Excerpts from Driving Through Painville

Romans 5: 3-4 teaches us that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance produces character and character produces hope. If we are consistently trying to bypass pain/suffering then we may miss the blessings that follow. The trials and tribulations of life will wound us and cause pain. My father was part of what has been referred to as the greatest generation. He experienced the hardships of growing up during the Great Depression and fighting in World War II. God gave him and many others of this period the ability to persevere. The character that comes through perseverance produces people of integrity and principle. Principles are things that are worth fighting and sometimes dying for. Integrity is the actions that we take when no one is looking. If we consistently seek out the bypass for Painville then we become a people that lack perseverance and character.
