Jesus had recently raised Lazarus from the dead and the word of this miracle had preceded his entry into Jerusalem. In today’s terminology we might say that his approval ratings were off the chart. Thousands of on lookers gave him a standing ovation and sang his praises. Their expectation was for Jesus to be the one to deliver them from the cruel oppression of the Roman government. At last God had heard their cries and would soon provide justice and fairness for His chosen people. This applause and praise lasted about as long as the approval of the referees.
