March Madness

March madness is upon us and I don’t see a cure for the illness any time soon. 68 NCAA Division 1 men’s basket ball teams have been selected to play in the “the Big Dance”. Terms such as “bracketology, cinderella team, bracket busters, seeds, and final four” become everyday language around the water cooler at [...]

THE JOURNEY OF AN ANONYMOUS PASTOR – Part 4

Have you ever said you’re sorry to someone or to God only because you got caught or because it benefited you to do so? I know that I have. I am not a stranger to false repentance. False repentance is saying, “I’m sorry for ________,” when in reality you plan to do it again when [...]

February 2013 Newsletter – Child Abuse

by David Jones Restoration Path Ex. Director   Matthew 18:6-76  “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea. 7 Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses [...]

THE JOURNEY OF AN ANONYMOUS PASTOR – Part 3

I was riding my four-wheeler on a warm summer day down some dirt roads when I found the magazine. I found it at the Circle, a local spot for beer parties; it was just a clearing in the woods off a gravel road. I liked going there because I got to bust the beer bottles [...]

Testimony

Lance Armstrong has vehemently denied, lied, pledged, sworn and promised for years that he had never used PID’s. He “threw under the bus” his closest friends and teammates when they confronted him with allegations of his doping. We now hear of tearful confessions before his supporters and Oprah Winfrey. What does all this mean? Does this represent a man who is in true repentance from his sins? Is this all so-and-tell theatrics in order to gain approval or reputation? Has his guilt and shame caused his “bones to waste away” because he kept silent for so many years? There may be only one person who can answer the questions regarding Armstrong’s confession. But even Lance may not know what is in his own heart.

Prince William and Kate Expecting First Child

Year after year the Israelites waited for this grand pregnancy and birth of this mighty King. They had dreams and aspirations for this Mighty God ruler. They envisioned a glorious announcement and birth that included much fanfare and would create envy and respect in the eyes of all other rulers and nations. They knew this child would want for nothing and all the nations would bow before Him. They waited and times got tough. There were 300 years of no word from God through His prophets. Had God forgotten his people?

Morality-Who Needs It?

My first thought upon reading this CNN article is “When did Larry Flynt become an expert on morality, fidelity and honor.” Based upon the products his company produces, I would see him more as an expert in immorality, infidelity, and dishonor. Biblically based morality draws a line and says that crossing over this line is now a sin. Fidelity means that one is committed, dedicated and devoted to one person or cause. Honor finds it core and roots wrapped around the word honesty. The concept of integrity is interwoven throughout all of these.

Election Time

Romans 5:8 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Election time has finally come and gone after many months of non-stop TV, radio, and printed advertisements. We now know the outcome of local, state, and national elections. We live in a great country where the people truly get to elect their chosen leaders and officials. I wonder what our election results would have been in years past if they had the media coverage we have today. Let’s face it, many of our past presidents were not that attractive, could have lost a few pounds and probably lacked great oration skills. Would we have elected George Washington if we knew all the details of his past? What if TMZ cameras had followed Abraham Lincoln around and critiqued his scraggly beard and ruddy complexion? Would we have deemed him not attractive enough to be our president? When the Israelites chose their first king, they chose Saul because he looked like one. He was muscular, tall, dark and handsome. Saul may have looked like a king but he did not have the heart of a king. When God chose His king, he selected a boy who had a heart that pursued Him and not self interest. Let’s face it, when it comes to choosing anybody, we usually just look at the external appearance.

Wedding Feast Gone Bad

A paradox is a statement, proposition, or situation that seems to be absurd or contradictory, but in fact is or may be true. The heading of the article above contains some paradoxical phrases. “Wedding brawl in the city of brotherly love” appears a tad bit absurd or contradictory. The wedding feast is one where love, commitment and dedication are the primary themes and not tasers, batons, chaos and violence. It was not clear what started this brawl but it was apparent that the over usage of alcohol was a primary and contributing factor.
