Prepare for a new royal.
Prince William and Kate Middleton are expecting their first child, the palace has confirmed.
“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby,” read the statement released Monday. “The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news.”
“The Duchess was admitted this afternoon to King Edward VII Hospital in Central London with Hyperemesis Gravidarum,” the official word added. “As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter.”
Preparing for the birth of your first child is an exciting time for parents. It is a time to formulate dreams and aspirations for the new arrival. Once the pregnancy is confirmed, announcement must be given to family and friends concerning the pending arrival. It would be reasonable to say that no modern day pregnancy announcement has received as much attention as Prince William and Kate Middleton. There was one, however, even greater and more amazing pregnancy announcement that occurred hundreds of years before the actual birth.
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (NKJV)
Year after year the Israelites waited for this grand pregnancy and birth of this mighty King. They had dreams and aspirations for this Mighty God ruler. They envisioned a glorious announcement and birth that included much fanfare and would create envy and respect in the eyes of all other rulers and nations. They knew this child would want for nothing and all the nations would bow before Him. They waited and times got tough. There were 300 years of no word from God through His prophets. Had God forgotten his people?
Finally, the announcement comes but not in the way anyone would have ever expected. The announcement came to a humble teenager and her future husband. It came to the socially outcast sheppards. God’s announcement did not go out to the proud and powerful political and religious elite. From the moment of his birth all the way to the cross, the proud always wanted to kill the Prince of Peace. Are you humble enough to receive the gift of His Son? Does your prideful self reliance block you from bending your knees before the King of Kings? Is your worship drive consumed by your secret addictions? Does your shame and guilt tell you that you could never receive the gift of His Grace?
The announcement of His birth is still fresh and alive today. Will you take some time during this holiday season to humble yourself and receive the gift of His Mercy, Grace and Forgiveness?
