Fight Club

1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. (NKJV)IMG_8199

“What’s the number one rule of Fight Club? Don’t talk about Fight Club.” In case you didn’t know, this is the classic line from the movie Fight Club. The main antagonist in the movie is an insomniac who makes friends with this unconventional rebellious character with whom they start an underground fight club. We find out toward the end of the movie that this rebellious character exists only in the mind of the insomniac. There is one scene where he is actually beating himself all the while believing he is fighting his imaginary friend. There are many Christians today who have their own fight club and adhere to the number one rule of never talking about it. They even beat themselves and lose sleep with the guilt and shame of repeated failures. This fight is with sexual sin. Sexual temptation comes in all kinds of shapes and sizes and Satan sells it in a personalized fashion which he advertises to meet our own unique perceived needs. Just as in Fight Club, sexual sin produces a double-minded person. One seeks to serve the Lord while the other rebels and wants no constraints. In the movie, the combatants fought each other. In the war against sexual sin, we must come together and form a Christian version of fight club. The lies and deceptions of Satan are the enemy and our weapons are the Armor of God that begin with honesty and truth. We are in a war. Let’s talk about this fight club and defeat this weak opponent who stands no chance against the Mighty One.
