April 2014 Newsletter – Family Freedom

A friend of mine was telling me just the other day of how proud he was of his teenage son. His pride did not come from some academic or athletic accomplishment. It did not come through the attractiveness of his son or his son’s girlfriend. It did not come through musical or artistic giftedness. He was proud of his son because he had been exposed to pornography by a peer, walked away and talked to his father about the experience. This may not seem like such a great feat but considering the world we live in today where sexual sin is tolerated and sometimes encouraged, it was a big deal. Prior to this event, his father had created an open relationship with his son that promoted safety where any topic could be discussed. This event is even more amazing considering his father’s history of early exposure to sexual sin, no one he could trust, and many years of bondage in sexual addiction. His father has been walking in freedom from sexual sin for several years now. Because of his life experiences, he knew he wanted his family to be empowered to deal with the assault of sexual sin not if but when it occurred. He also knew that would occur by God’s spirit working on and through him to create a family that was based upon honesty, God’s Truth, mercy and forgiveness. You see sexual sin grows in secrecy and isolation. His son knows he is not alone in the battle against sexual temptation. Sadly, I do not hear very many of these stories and most families are not equipped or prepared for the day when sexual sin invades the lives of their children.

The number one topic of the phone calls and emails I receive are from parents who have just discovered their child, minor or adult, is caught in the snare of sexual sin. In most cases, these parents do not have access to Christian counseling or one that deals with this issue. They are concerned about seeking secular counseling for fear they will minimize, encourage their sexual sin, or label it as normal behavior. In many cases, I have felt limited in what support and tools I could provide. That is until now. Coming this May, after many years of works, we will be releasing our latest video workshop for families with a child struggling with sexual sin. The workshop is entitled Family Freedom Intensive. This workshop is one where the entire family is involved because sexual sin does not just affect one person in the family. The workshop is not about shaming or blaming but one that provides biblical tools that can be practically applied. The workshop format involves weekly video instruct, individual workbook assignments and the use of family meetings. A Restoration Path staff is also available throughout the workshop to aid you in the workshop experience. This is not a sit-at-home-and-watch-a-movie while eating popcorn type of workshop. This workshop will involve time, work and sacrifice but hopefully investing in your child’s future is worth the effort. Give us a call and will be glad to give you more details and hopefully I will be hearing more stories from parents who are proud of their sons and daughters for taking a stand to pursue purity and righteousness.
